The “What in the World is Happening in this Photo?!?” Contest is a partnership between the Valentine Richmond History Center, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the University of Richmond. Through a grant from the Media General Corporation, the History Center has worked since 2005 to catalog and digitize its Times-Dispatch Photograph Collection.

This collection of approximately 12,000 mid to late-twentieth century images was donated to the History Center by Richmond Newspapers, Inc. (the forerunner to Media General) between 1945 and 1991 and provides a majority of the History Center’s contemporary images. With the completion of this project, the collection will be accessible to the public through the History Center’s online database.
